AeroVision: Leading Drone Innovation and Shaping Industry Policy

Reimagining the Role of Drones

Drones no longer belong to the realm of futuristic military tech. Today, they transform how we grow food, maintain infrastructure, monitor energy and gas lines, and manage international security. What was once experimental technology now drives daily operations around the world

At the center of this evolution is AeroVision and its Founder and CEO, Trevor Bergmann. With nearly 25 years in aviation, aerospace, and defence, Bergmann brings both technical expertise and leadership to an industry that’s rewriting the rules of aviation.

This story matters because drones aren’t just gadgets, they’re tools with real-world consequences. Whether improving safety for first responders, reducing costs for critical industries, or protecting the environment, the decisions leaders like Bergmann make today shape tomorrow. That’s why we’re sharing AeroVision’s story: where we came from, where we’re headed, and how we’re driving progress in one of the most talked-about industries of our time.

AeroVision’s Journey

AeroVision Canada launched in 2013, at the dawn of the drone service sector. What started with hand-built kits and mounted GoPros quickly revealed a bigger picture: drones could be more than hobby machines. With our aviation background, we recognized their potential to transform industries and committed to building professional standards for that future.

Early projects like real estate videos showed the limits of drones as a novelty. So we shifted focus, applying aviation discipline to utilities, inspections, mapping, and maintenance, areas where safety and precision mattered. We helped set the standard for certified drone operations in numerous industries, and that niche set of experience and capability set us apart.

Today, AeroVision leads advanced services such as LiDAR scanning, digital mapping, infrastructure inspections, and emergency response. To meet rising demand, we launched AeroVision Global, extending our reach beyond Canada and into international markets. Growth has been especially strong in the United States, where the need for professional drone services has surged over the past two years. By expanding our operations, we pair innovation with professionalism to support industries at home and abroad, shaping the future of unmanned aviation.

Setting the Standard

From the beginning, AeroVision understood that credibility would be the cornerstone of success in the drone industry. Working with critical infrastructure (oil and gas, offshore platforms, wind turbines, and other essential assets) demanded more than just drones and operators. It required data that was accurate, verifiable, and trusted by industries where safety and precision are non-negotiable.

The challenge early on was that no standards or certifications existed for drone services. We set out to change that. AeroVision became the first drone company in Canada, and only the second in North America, to achieve ISO 9001 Quality Management certification. This achievement signaled to clients that our processes, data, and results were held to internationally recognized standards.

We also earned COR certification in Nova Scotia, a nationally recognized program focused on construction and industrial safety. This reinforced our commitment to continuously auditing and improving our own workflows to ensure every operation met the highest safety expectations.

Most notably, AeroVision became the first company in the world to secure Lloyd’s Register endorsement for class-based inspections of vessels and offshore installations. For asset managers, this was a breakthrough: inspections could now be performed without rope access crews, reducing risk to personnel, cutting downtime, and providing a safer, faster alternative for gathering essential data.

While we continue to pursue industry-leading certifications that demonstrate our professionalism and capabilities, we also recognize our responsibility to give back. AeroVision often responds to humanitarian missions during natural disasters at no cost, and we support regional search and rescue efforts when called upon. These contributions reflect our belief that technology should not only advance industry standards but also serve the communities we call home.

Key Services

AeroVision provides advanced drone operations across critical industries, combining safety, precision, and actionable data. Our services include:

  • Aerial Electrical Inspections
Using drones for powerline and infrastructure inspections allows utilities to monitor assets safely and efficiently. This approach reduces downtime, minimizes risk to personnel, and improves overall grid reliability.

  • Aerial & Terrestrial LiDAR
LiDAR technology provides high-accuracy mapping, detecting subtle changes in elevation and vegetation density. Drone-based LiDAR eliminates the need for manual surveys in hazardous areas, enhancing both safety and data quality.

  • Confined Space Inspections
Confined space environments are inherently risky. Our drones provide fast, preliminary visual inspections at lower cost and with significantly reduced risk, offering a safer first step in the inspection process.

  • Disaster & Emergency Response
Our drones capture detailed, time-stamped records of evolving disaster and emergency scenes. This data supports planning, real-time decision-making, and post-event analysis to improve future response efforts.

Meet our CEO - Trevor Bergmann

Trevor Bergmann is the Founder and CEO of both AeroVision Canada Inc. and AeroVision Global Corp., bringing nearly 25 years of experience across civil aviation, aerospace, and defence. His career began as a commercial pilot before moving into Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, where he worked with industry leaders such as FedEx, Air Canada, and Voyageur Aviation.

In 2013, Bergmann launched AeroVision with a vision to set new professional standards for commercial drone operations in Canada. Since then, he has become a driving force in the evolution of drone-based services, ensuring the technology is applied with the same discipline as crewed aviation.

Beyond leading AeroVision, Bergmann plays an active role in shaping the industry’s future. He contributes to several Transport Canada working groups and serves on the Board of the Aerial Evolution Association of Canada, helping guide national policy and the safe integration of drones into complex airspace systems.

Policy and Education

Recently Canada implemented new Beyond Visual Line-of-Sight (BVLOS) regulations, but progress remains slow in unlocking the full potential of drones. Advocacy, education, and engagement with policymakers play a vital role in moving the industry forward. The public’s perception of drones has suffered from the actions of a few irresponsible users, making education and leadership essential to rebuild trust.

AeroVision has embraced this challenge head-on. Beyond delivering advanced drone solutions, we play an active role in shaping how the industry grows and governs itself. Through our participation in organizations such as the Aerial Evolution Association of Canada and partnerships with university drone programs, we contribute to the development of national policy, research, and education that guide the safe integration of drones into Canadian airspace.

At the same time, we continue to combine aviation discipline with cutting-edge drone technology to make operations safer, more efficient, and more reliable. Our collaborations with leading engineering firms, utilities, and emergency services further strengthen our position as a trusted partner in high-stakes, real-world applications.

Our Commitment

From its early days in Halifax to becoming a leader recognized by Transport Canada, AeroVision Canada has consistently pushed the drone industry forward. With integrity, accountability, and professionalism at its core, the company is committed to making drones a force for safety, efficiency, and progress.

The story of AeroVision is still being written, but our mission is clear: to lead the industry with aviation-grade standards and help shape the future of drones in Canada and beyond.
